First Substitute House Bill 8, State Agency and Higher Education Compensation Appropriations, sponsored by Rep. Brad Last and Sen. Kevin Van Tassell will provide state employees with a 2% pay increase, funding for hot spots, and funding for the Department of Corrections career ladder. The bill passed both the House and Senate and has been sent to the Governor.
As you will recall, Governor Herbert initially proposed a 1% pay increase for state employees. UPEA began the Legislative session with an uphill battle, and has spent numerous hours meeting with and educating legislators about the importance of state employee pay. In addition, UPEA members were committed to contacting their legislators and asking for additional compensation. The result of these efforts was overwhelmingly positive.
