On Wednesday, December 16 the Executive Appropriations Committee announced that the salary increase UPEA was instrumental in securing during the 2020 session will be reinstated in the base budget that will be adopted in the first few days of the 2021 session. The proposed base budget includes $67 million in on-going appropriations for a 3 percent increase in state employee salaries.
This increase was delayed due to the revenue decrease caused by the pandemic. Since the legislature addressed the revenue reduction last summer, UPEA has urged legislative leadership to reinstate the salary increase as quickly as possible as revenue projections increase and the state rebounds from the pandemic.
UPEA Executive Director, Todd Losser, issued a statement to members on Thursday, December 17. “We are grateful this reinstatement has been recommended as we approach the 2021 legislative session. UPEA expresses deep appreciation for the hard work you perform each day for the citizens of Utah.
May the coming holiday season be filled with a greater degree of hope for you and your family. Thank you for all you do.”
